Drupal and PHP Musings

"What are inherent limitations of PHP/CMSs?" asked someone in a forum. A few experienced programmers respond with good thoughts.

Drupal

Drupal is one of the most developer-friendly, open source, PHP-based content management systems on the planet. Equipped with a powerful blend of features, Drupal can support a variety of websites ranging from personal weblogs to large community-driven websites.

Trac

Trac is an enhanced wiki and issue tracking system for software development projects. Trac uses a minimalistic approach to web-based software project management. It provides an interface to Subversion, an integrated Wiki, and convenient report facilities.

Independent evaluations of content management, records management, enterprise search, and portal solutions.

OpenSourceCMS

This site is full of content management systems for you to try out. Every single CMS listed is completely open source and most are written in PHP. The really nifty thing about this site is that you can login as "admin" on any of these CMS packages and mess around as much as you want.

CMS Matrix

Compare many different content management systems side by side. This site has a larger variety of CMS packages than I've seen anywhere else under one "roof." Check off up to 10 that you're interested in at a time and click on Compare.

Gallery

Gallery is an open source, online photo album management system. It is written in PHP and has been in active use by David Cornelius for his family's personal photo album for several years.

NetOffice

NetOffice is an open source, online project management system written in PHP and ties in with MySQL. It's been in use at CCI for quite some time.

CivicSpace

A fork of Drupal for non-profit organizations and with extra functionality. The publishers are contributing back to the Drupal community.
